LCMA

Environment Centre Laboratory :

imatge lcma 1It develops its activity in the field of the atmospheric environment with the design of methodologies applied to the evaluation of air quality (indoor-outdoor air) in urban areas (COV-HAP), in the control of odor / nuisance episodes with the identification of the producing compounds and their origin, to the creation of territorial planning tools through the elaboration of impact maps and concentration of pollutants and to the measurement of the impact of activities through chemical control and numerical modeling. Within the same field, equipment for the control of volatile organic compounds is developed with activation by means of sensors aimed at air quality controls by recording episodes of short-term odor / nuisance. These equipments, provided with sensors and using IoT technology, allow a continuous record of the relative values of VOC in urban areas. Likewise, its implementation "at the fence" in activities that generate odor / nuisance episodes allow an exhaustive control by the activities of the possible generation of episodes in the inhabited areas of its environment.

Relevant equipment :

Identification and quantification of air pollutants :

Thermal desorption coupled to gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detector (DT-GC / MS) by:

  • Identification and quantification of pollutants in indoor and outdoor air (VOC screenings) (screenings COV).
  • Material emission evaluation
  • Characterization of biogas (siloxanes, VOCs)
  • Characterization of biogenic emissions
  • Characterization of exhaled air

VOC capture system :

Equipment for capturing volatile organic compounds (Patent ES 2 311 396 B1) with multi-bed adsorbent systems (capturing a wide spectrum of VOCs). Stations with continuous VOC sensors (generalist sensors) that allow to continuously record the number of episodes that occur in the chosen points of the territory, being able to consult the data in real time. These equipments are equipped with an activation system for taking samples for contamination episodes. The continuous record allows having data on episodic impacts in each specific point of the territory to be located (date and time of the beginning and end of the episode) automatically without the need for the involvement of neighbors and / or workers of potentially generating activities. odor / nuisance episodes. This information allows the managers of these plants to act immediately on the source of emission that caused the episode.

Likewise, it allows to have a continuous record by local administrations that have a network of sensors of this type in their municipalities. The captured samples are subsequently analyzed offline in the laboratory to obtain the compounds that generate these episodes as well as their concentrations, thus being able to enter a cycle of continuous improvement of air quality.

Mathematical modeling and fluid-dynamic computation models :

Impact evaluation of new and current issuing activities. Optimization of chemical control programs and determination of the origin of episodes (back-tagging). Evaluation of ventilation systems.
