PhD Opportunity in Vitrimers
Vitrimers are a class of crosslinked polymers having dynamic covalent bonds that undergo exchange reactions upon a thermal/irradiation stimulus, that allow their network to change topology while maintaining a constant number of chemical bonds. These innovative materials behave like thermosets at room temperature but can flow at elevated temperatures, allowing them to be recycled, reformed, and self-healed.
The aim of the PhD is to develop commercial vitrimers for various industrial applications, including adhesive bonding, coatings, carbon fibre-reinforced materials, and the design of parts using 3D printing technology. This PhD will be carried out at the URV (FuncMat research group), in collaboration with the UPC (POLTEPO research group). Dr. Silvia de la Flor (URV, Mechanical Engineering department) and Dr. Xavier Fernández Francos (UPC, Heat Engines department ETSEIB) will act as supervisors.
We seek candidates with degrees in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. A background in polymer science is desirable.
